Those who know me well know that I enjoy writing about the Catholic Faith. I’ve published two short books of scriptural reflections – Follow Me: Scriptural Reflections on Living as a Disciple of Jesus and Remain in Me: Scriptural Reflections on Growing as a Disciple of Jesus – and am currently writing a third – Who Do You Say That I Am?: Scriptural Reflections on Becoming a Disciple of Jesus.
Despite my love of writing, I don’t tend to take the opportunity to do so nearly enough. My writing projects have been completed outside of my work hours, often in the wee hours of the morning when my parish and home responsibilities have allowed me to do so. Because of my regular parish and family responsibilities, I tend to go weeks at a time without putting pen to paper or hand to keyboard to distill and share thoughts about Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.
During my daily time of prayer lately, though, I’ve sensed the Lord saying, “You need to write more!” Frustrated that I rarely seem to be able to find the time to write outside of work, I recently realized that I should approach Fr. David about the possibility of including a blog within my ordinary work as Director of Religious Education at St. Aloysius Church. He has graciously agreed to the idea, and the result is this new blog, Heart to Heart: Catholic Reflections by Leonard Wathen.
In this online space, I look forward to sharing thoughts about Scripture, Catholic teaching, the sacraments, holiness, and prayer. If you’re looking for someone who will offer some thoughts about trying to be a saint in our very strange world, then you’ve come to the right place. My hope is to share reflections about once a week, as my work responsibilities allow.
